Insufficient crimps in the transmission sensor-cluster wire harness can make the transmission unexpectedly shift to neutral -- a loss-of-drive crash risk. The remedy reprograms the PCM and TCM and, if needed, replaces the transaxle range-sensor wire harness.

Check — VIN recall lookup for completion on any 948TE-equipped Cherokee, 200, or Renegade in this window. Treat any unexpected shift to neutral or momentary loss of drive on the test drive as disqualifying until the fix is confirmed.
