2014 Ford F-150

BUY WITH CARE

Decent buy, but the master cylinder recall needs a hard look first.

What to check

Before you buy

Three things, in order. Ten minutes of work, standing at the car.

  1. 1
Run the VIN for open recalls

8 open — all free fixes. Confirm each is closed before you hand over money.

  2. 2
    Test-drive checklist
    • Run the VIN through Ford / NHTSA recall lookup and confirm 20V332000 shows completed; on the test drive check for a firm brake pedal, correct fluid level, and any brake-fluid warning lamp.
    • On the test drive get the engine to full temperature, then accelerate hard after a sustained cruise (ideally in humid or wet weather) and feel for a stumble or misfire; scan for stored misfire/DTC codes and ask whether the charge-air-cooler condensation TSB work (CAC drain/deflector, PCM recalibration) was performed.
    • Start the engine genuinely cold (parked overnight) and listen for a 2-5 second rattle from the front of the engine; have the codes scanned for P0016 or cam-timing faults and ask for timing-chain / cam-phaser service records.
  3. 3
    Get a pre-purchase inspection

An hour with a mechanic on the items above is the cheapest insurance you’ll buy.
